SSD for Inspiron 560
The hard disk on my Inspiron 560 desktop is throwing errors when it gets warm. Seemed like a good time to upgrade to an SSD.
Has anyone done this? Did you have any problems (my intention is to reinstall the Windows 7 that was preinstalled on the now faulty hard disk, then upgrade to Windows 10).
I have already gone part way down this route by buying a Kingston SSDNOW V300 240GB SSD kit - SV300S3B7A/240G.
I purchased the kit rather than the bare SSD because I naively thought that it would come with a universal bracket which would fit the Inspiron 560. Not so - it comes with a 2.5" to 3.5" metal mounting plate, but this assumes that you're going to fix into the desktop using the holes on the side of the mounting plate - the Inspiron requires holes in the top of the mounting plate. I guess I could turn the mounting plate upside down and drill it, but that would mean getting new screws and locking washers.
My inclination is to send the SSD kit back and buy a bare bones SSD (for £20 less) and buy a separate mounting bracket, but I've looked on Amazon and I can't find a suitable bracket. Can anybody recommend a bracket that will let me fit a 2.5" SSD to my Inspiron 560?
Many thanks,
Gary

Hi Gary,
To the upper right of the forum is a list of Wiki articles, one of which I've used to explain one option for installing an SSD in a desktop case.
