START UP PROBLEM

HI IM HAVING A PROBLEM WHEN I START UP AFTER THE DELL SCREEN A BLACK SCREEN APPEARS AND SAYS

DRIVE 1 NOT FOUND : SERIAL   ATA , SATA-2
DRIVE 2 NOT FOUND : PARALLEL  ATA , PATA-1 (PRI IDE  SLAVE )
 
strike F1 key to continue , strike F2 to run the setup utility
 
 
So i have to press F1 to carry on  is there any way to stop that happening. any help would be great.
i think i will need step by step help as im no expert.
 
im using dimension 3100

First, try running Dell diagnostics extended test on the hard drive. Reboot the computer, when the Dell logo appears, press F12, a boot device list appears, highlight the "Boot to Utility" partition and press "Enter".
 
What is the reading of the diagnostic LEDs on the front panel,

did you changed your BIOS settings?cuz based on your error message, both drives that are not getting detected are the slave or secondary drives...
 
how many hard drive and cd/dvd drive do you have?

not sure so had a look at the device manager and it says i have
 
_NEC DVD+-RW ND-3530A
NW8502H WQE544I SCSI cd rom drive
 
and in disk drives
ST3160828AS
 
dont know if thats any help didnt know where else to look for the info im a learner to all this

The message says that you have 1 disk drive, 1 DVD, and 1 CD-R. The BIOS says that you have 3 disk drives. You will have to disable the spurious drives (SATA-1, PATA) in the BIOS (F2 during boot follow the panels until you come to the disk drive section.)
