TSST Corp TS-h493A will not recognize DVD's

I have a new dell E520 running windows Vista that we bought about 5 months ago with a

CDRW/DVD TSST Corp TS-H493A, as an optical drive and it will not even recognize that there is a

DVD in the drive. it can still read and write CD's, but i i try to run any type of dvd it begins to load the

disk, the little disk image appears next to my cursor and then nothing happens. if you go to my

computer then it says there is no dick in the drive and asks me to insert a disk. How can I fix this?

Hi Shadow Fox,

Go to Device Manager, select the drive, click uninstall, re-boot the system? Did this help?
You have not applied any recent update, video card, media player, etc..?
Have you tried reinstalling your decoding software, possibly Cineplayer?

Best Regards

Hi Shadow Fox,

Dealt with another Member with a similiar issue, same drive and it ended up needing replacing.
Click on the CD/RW link in my post and scroll to Section 7-5, article 15 and try the free VLC program and see if it will now recognize the DVD media?

If still nothing, run the Dell Diagnostic on the drive, here is the link:
E520

Best Regards

Sorry to hear that Shadow Fox. If you are still under warrnty, please contact Dell. Have the Tech review your thread on Dell`s Forum and most likely the Tech will recommend the drive to be replaced.

Best Regards

Hey, Predator, your fix worked for me... I only removed the Upper Limit key and rebooted, the DVD came to life and all is well.
