Hi Jan,
This is an issue with the hard drive. We need to replace the hardd rive.
If the computer has active warranty, kindly private message the service tag so that I can take the case forward.
To Private message, click Here, then click "Send a Private Message".
If your computer does not have the Complete Care Warranty, you would need to contact our Expired Warranty Repairs team who can provide the pricing information for the LCD plastics: http://dell.to/14UCPMK (US based customers).
Awaiting your response!

Hi Jan,
Thanks for reaching out. SMART technology is designed to warn you when a hard disk drive has become unreliable. SMART technology does not detect all types of impending failures. It is best at predicting gradual failures.
If you able to boot the system to desktop, please back up all important data/files/pictures etc on a external hard drive or DVDs.
Run hardware diagnostics by following the below steps, and if the hard drive gives an error during the diagnostics, it will have to be replaced:
1. Start the system and press F12 on the Dell logo screen.
2. Select Diagnostics.
3. Please make a note of any error message/codes.
Do reply with the results.

Hi Jan,
There is a possibility that the hard drive might be failing. For more decisive result, I would suggest you to run the on-board Dell Diagnostics.
Please refer Run Built-In Diagnostics for Your System

If you come across any error code such as 2000-XXXX, please share it with me.

hi again :emotion-1:
Yes the system test was done first with the running the check from Dell Support Center a Full Hardware scan, I also went in and did a test by taping F12 and that error code says Code: 2000-0233. The try to do for this test is to "flash the latest bios". I do not at this time how I the "flash i.e. re-flash the bios.
My bios is released 10/26/2009. Bios version string A16. As said earlier I am online do not see any problems but have the error codes from the Support Center as paste below.

It's likely you need to replace the hard drive. To confirm, press F12 at powerup and enter the Dell diagnostics. Run an extended hard drive test.
If the system is in warranty, record the error and call Dell for a replacement drive.
If the system is out of warranty, any standard 3.5" serial ATA drive will work as a replacement.
