Have you checked your harddrive for the manuals?  Don't think Dell sends hard copies of manuals any more.

Did you install all of the required drivers and did you install them in this order?

Thanks, Snowball,

Unfortunately in the process of reinstalling XP numerous files have gone off to the great unknown. If I had them available I would have not posted the question. But again, Thank you for responding.

Joe,

You're very welcome.....sorry about those files....not a good feeling, I know, to lose them.

Aloha, Snowball,

Well, wouldn't you just know it. I continued mucking around in all the folders and something I did made the CD player start working again (opening on the Fn- F10 command). QuickSet did it....

All I have to do is post something on one of the many forums (I also have Linux Ubuntu to deal with), and magically, things resolve themselves. I also downloaded the Owners Manual for my laptop...It was gone from my harddrive.

Again, Mahalo nui loa,

Joe

Aloha, Rebel9,

Yes, I downloaded all of the pertanent drivers and installed them. The element that I didn't know about was QuickSet. The icon wasn't on my task bar and I had never heard of it. That resolved my problem...

It's amazing what one can find in an Owners Manual.....

Thanks for responding and your suggestions....
