Toshiba DVD-ROM - Not recognizing regular CD

I've just rebuilt my Inspiron 8200 and the DVD-Rom was working for the rebuild.  No it only will play DVD's when I reinstalled the WinDVD software, however it will not recognize any regular CD's.  I receive the following: "Disk is not formatted - Windows cannot read from this disk.  This disk might be corruputed, or it could be using a format that is not compatible with windows."

I have a TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD-C2502.

Any ideas?

I have the same problem with my Toshiba DVD-ROM in my I-8200... only it will not recognize any DVDs as well and gives me the same error message abt disc being corrupt or in a format that Windows doesnt recognize... I checked my driver's fine... The DVDs and CDs work fine in the other computers... havent been able to figure out a solution yet!
