Either should work fine, but I bet the first would be faster (larger buffer size).

Although a different system, be aware I encountered a weird problem with my Toshiba GAX hd (40GB,16MB buffer, 5400RPM). No solution yet.

=====

I have a Inspiron 3800 and upgraded the hd from a 4GB IBM to a 40GB Toshiba MK4026GAX (5400 RPM). I am using the latest A17 bios. I experience a problem after having upgraded the harddisk.

The problem occurs random. Normally pushing the powerbutton, you can hear the hd spinning, see the bios progress bar and Windows loads. But often, pushing the powerbutton the hd stays quiet, and the system can't find any bootable devices or I get a white screen requesting for a hd password. This happens mainly after not having used the notebook for a few hours or a day. This problem never happens after restarting the computer, having used it for several hours. I never encountered this problem with the old IBM hd, even reinstalling the old hd in the notebook.

The new hd works fine once it is spinning, and I do not encounter any problems during Windows usage. I also tested the hd in an external drive case. In this external drive case, the hd always powers on and spins. So it almost seems like the notebook doesn’t have enough power (wattage) to power and startup the hd initially. Oddly, pushing the powerbutton sligtly longer helps, sometimes. Any suggestions how to solve the issue?

Don't get a Toshiba HD....!!!!!

my wife works for a school system and her toshiba laptop HD failed and when I asked her about what the computer group said she told me that the IT dept said they have had a very large amount of toshiba HD failures....and they didn't know if they could keep spending all the $$ to keep the toshiba laptops running.

Due to the problem, I have reinstalled the old IBM hd and using the Toshiba hd in an external FW/USB case. It is working without any problems sofar. So it is probably not the hd itself, but the high specs in combination with my older notebook. It is a fast hd, and it is sad I must use it in an external case.

As every hd should be compatible, I DO think this problem should not be.
