Trying to install Plextor PX-716UF external DVD burner Dimension 8250 XP Pro
Trying to install Plextor PX-716UF external DVD burner Dimension 8250 XP Pro
When I try to connect/add a new device via fire wire or USB (Scanner, DVD burner, video camera) the screen tells me that I do not need a driver as my Windows XP already has the driver.
I continue to get the message that the driver is not available.
The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)
To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver
I then click Reinstall and get this message
Cannot Install this Hardware
The hardware was not installed because the wizard cannot find the necessary software
Any suggestions?

Hi Truckeedude,
Have you tried uninstalling the USB hub in Device Manager, then re-booting? (with the devices disconnected)
Also double check in the BIOS that USB is enabled.

Gave those a shot....uninstalling the USB hub in Device Manager, then re-booting? (with the devices disconnected) and checked in the BIOS that USB is enabled.
and no change....any other suugestions?

Hi Truckeedude,
Normally Scanners, Printers, Camera require you to install their software before attaching the device, but I never really seemed to have that problem with an optical drive. Dis-connect the DVD drive, install your burning software and then attach the drive, see if this helps.

The two CDs that came with the Plextor...
one, Roxio Toast lite....says it can not be read on a Windows computer
and the other is on a DVD, and I do not have the DVD player/recorder yet.
For the Epson, the software has been installed and it still won't start up...when I go to start it sends me to the trouble shooter...

Hi Truckeedude,
I recall Dell having a utility or a KB article on USB issues but currently I cannot find it. For now, you are using the USB ports on the back of the Tower instead of the front and you have tried all four?
