Update firmware problem
Hello!
I have Dell Vostro 3360 with SEAGATE ST320LT007-9ZV142 (current firmware is 0003DEM1).
I found a new version of firmware (A05) on the Dell site and tried to update under Windows 7 x64. But the update process failed! I don't understand what to do now. I've read that I should use legacy mode but I don't know how to do it!
Help if you can!

Hi pil_Grim,
There is a procedure for flashing the firmware from a DOS prompt using a bootable flash drive. It's always better to use the DOS procedure for any firmware update is one is available. So try that.
How to boot from a USB flash drive
I strongly recommend you keep a dedicated bootable flash drive for this and other purposes (virus removal, diagnostics, etc.). They really come in handy. You don't need anything high capacity. Just 256MB or 512MB is fine.

Hi, Osprey!
Thank you for your answer! I did all that you had told but without any result!
I boot my Dell in DOS mode and follow the instructions of updating the firmware:
(DOS based firmware update for ST320LT007-9ZV142/ST250LT007-9ZV14C/ST160LT007-9ZV14D:-
1. Unzip JUL5DEM1.zip and copy it into your bootable USB key. Boot up the computer from the USB key.
2. Change directory (cd) to JUL5DEM1\Dos, type 0005DEM1.BAT and press the enter key.
3. Your system will now start updating the HDD firmware. Once the firmware update is completed, firmware update completion message will be displayed.
4. Remove your USB key, and turn off your system using the computers power button. Once the computer has been powered down, you can now turn the computer on.)
Nothing happens!!!
I type 0005DEM1.BAT and press the enter key - the computer "thinks" some time (flash drive is flashing) and then sends me in a command line "echo off" and returns to an usual command line!
So, I need more help!

Is there a particular reason you think you need to update the firmware?

I read the recommendations on the Dell Support site and decided to update the firmware! I just want my Vostro work with the latest drivers and firmware.

Firmware updates are released to fix specific problems. Dell does not recommend applying a firmware update unless you have the problem the update was designed to fix.
Good luck!
