Did all that.......  It is doing the same thing that is did to me a while back,  It is skipping during playback and burning really slow.   I replaced the phillips dvd8701 and bought a new plextor drive.  Now they are both doing the same thing. I am getting very frustrated. But thanks for the input guy and let me know if you have anymore ideas.  Thank Again,

Check that the drive is in DMA mode and has not slipped to PIO mode here ........

Sorry About that.   I have a Dell Dem. 3000.  It has a Pentium 4  3.00ghz processor.  With 1gig of ram.  I am tring to burn "dvd" files with nero.  I have had nothing but good luck,  even went out and bought a new Plextor drive.  UNTIL NOW.  Just all of a sudden I am getting %100 cpu Usage and it takes about 30mins do burn.  (at X16)  It used to take 6mins.  No updates have been performed that i can tell.   I know i have very little info.  Any ideas would be great.  Thanks again

"Did all that..." unfortunately does not really explain anything. You did not answer the question, whether your drives are running in DMA and not PIO mode.

It means that I checked to see if it was in DMA mode and it was.  Both my drives skip during playback and take forever to burn.  No drivers have been updated and no other programs have been installed.  As far as the processes go.... it toggles between nero and task manager.  It will show 100% on nero then switch to 100% on task manager.  I have microsoft anti-spy and yahoo anti-spy.   Both came up with a clean scan.  Like I said before,  I had to replace my Phillips dvd8701 because of this same problem.   And it fixed it.  But I find it hard to believe that both drives  messed up at the same time.  But I guess anything is possible.
