Windows XP Installation on Vostro 1510 ahci errors (0x0000007b error windows XP install)
Hello Guys,
I'am trying to install windows XP on a Vostro 1510.
In the bios there is no option to reconfigure the ahci to Sata or other wise.
When installing windows Xp there will be a blue screen. With error:
0x0000007b. Also tried to install windows with option F6 raid/scsi drivers and installed Dell HDD Manager and ahci driver. Tried all 12 drivers, but still nogo and blue screen.
Can someone please help me with this installation? Which chipset driver or other options?
Hope to hear from you.

In order to install in AHCI mode, your XP CD must have Service Pack 2 on it.

Hi,
Thanks for the tip, but SP2 is on the install disc. After installation the pc reboots, and there the blue screen
appears again.
Hope you have more tips that maybe can be used.

just to be clear, did you put the contents of this decompressed file on to a floppy and used F6 during setup to install the driver?
with xp, the driver needs to be installed via a floppy or slipstreamed into your xp cd

"Hey Bacillus, yes that driver we used. Still nogo.
But the strainge thing happend. We started an Windows Vista Installation. Created an Partition in Vista and then aborted the installation. After that we rebooted the system en put the Windows Xp cd in the notebook. Booted up with XP, NTFS quick format, and then the installation workes. No more blue screens. Installed the remaining drivers of video etc etc. And Windows XP works. You have a Conclusion? Greetz Eagles-Nest"

hi !
i had same problem with vostro 1510 vista instaled. i downloaded bioss version A13 from dell and writed it on cd and installed on windows the bios of mine was changed from A06 to A13 then i rebooted the computer and in this case i have been able to chang the hard drive setting in bioss from SATA to ATA AND SAVED IT IN BIOSS SETTING. after this i have installed the xp windows. it is nessesary to write the A13 on cd. it willn't work from fash or hard drive for bioss version changing. i hope you test it and i'm sure you will be successfull. this is the easiest way.

I have the same problem. I got XP to install just fine under ATA mode. But, when I change it back to AHCI, blue screen time!
Did you ever get it resolved so that you can turn on AHCI?

I had the same problem, I first downloaded all drivers for XP and then started to look into the setup to change the harddisk setting from AHCI to sata as I found on some internet forum.
Unfortunately there was no such option anywhere in the setup.
But I had seen that there was a new bios named A15, so I flashed that one in in the hope it might get me closer to a solution.
Instead it got me into deep trouble: the 1510 suddenly didn't recognize the battery anymore so it won't load it.
I tried everything, first by returning to the old bios (A13), then downloading and using another A13 bios diect from dell's site.
Nothing helps, At every startup I get the error message and can only continue after pressing F1.
My laptop was so degraded to a desktop, and still I am stuck with Vista instead of XP.
I would be most gratefl for any suggestion. The battery has always been fine so it must be the darn bios I flashed into the 1510.
Somewhere I read btw that somebody with an XPS had the exact opposite experience; his battery function didn't work anymore until he flashed the newest version named A16. Wouls my only hope be that one day for Vostro a new bios will appear????
