Windows XP Roxio Easy Creator 5.1 (with computer) vs Service Packs

OS crashed.  Reloaded XP with CD's. Update XP.  Roxio no longer works & is no longer recognized.  Excellent tech support from Dell informed me that my Roxio was loading program into ADAPTEC folder.  Decision to delete Roxio was best ever.  XP already has great SW to copy files to CD's (and using CDR is best).  Seems that Service Pack interferes with original CD from Dell for using Roxio.  New Roxio 7 is too expensive for me at this time.  You can get by with XP's file drag or copy & past to CD.  Roxio seems to continue to have issues that conflict with XP so I'm sticking with Dell's suggestion at this time.  Also, my backup computer could not read the Roxio CDRW any more until I started using new CDR only.  Simply copy files to new CDR & save just in case Inspiron 4100 crashes again & needs to be sent in for warranty work.  That way I can still function.  Thanks to George at Dell for helping me with these issues.  Forget Roxio & stay with Windows XP CD driver to save yourself some headaches in the future!

I have unsuccessful to install Roxio Easy CD Creator Platinum on my Inspiron 5150.  It would appear that the Roxio software does not recognize the CD drive. I have used Roxio with great success on my Desktop.  I like Roxio's function that allows to record from LP's and other audio devices.  Is there other software available that is similar to Roxio's "Spin Doctor" ?

Hey Ray, I am not that familiar with any SW other than Roxio.  It's a good program but it just does not like to work with XP.  The best thing about Roxio is that other computers can read it if you close the CD to "read on any computer".  A fairly inexpensive option is adding a separate Hard Drive to copy everything to.  There are some $29 programs to do this with & that will be my next step since I build web sites.

Hi Ray,

You might want to check with Comp USA or Dell for the latest remote RW backup drive & see what the best program is for this.  I understand the cost to be around $200 total including the remote CDRW drive & SW.  Sorry I can't help much more than that at this time.

hi, i am having the same problem in that as soon as I upgraded from Windows 2000 to XP SP2 I cannot see my CDRW drive as Roxio is giving all sorts of problems.  You mention that XP can see the CDRW drive already and you don't have a need for Roxio.  I would LOVE getting rid of Roxio, however even when I remove the Roxio software and reboot I still cannot my CDRW.  Is there something I need to do after removing Roxio?  I have a Dimension 4300 XP SP2.
