cd-rom doesn't recognize cd
I have a dell dimension 2350, The cd-rom just recenty quit recognizing any cd in the drive. It always tells me to insert a cd in the drive. Where can I go on the web to reinstall ther driver to try to correct the problem? In the device page the cd-rom is a HL-DT-STCD-ROM GCR-8481B. Thank you for any info.

Please read my thread " one more who cannot burn CD-R(W)s anymore " of yesterday 30.01 and you'll see you are not the only one facing this sudden problem.
In the meantime I found in Microsoft support they know about the problem too.
Read their article 883.523 Nov.10th 04 and article 316.529
Most probably it will be fixed as they say with next coming Service Pack, as the actual (not right away available) hotfix could not be effective.

Hi threedognite,
Lets start with some standard steps:
click on the CD/RW link in my post and scroll to Section 15, article 1; Section 20, article 3; Section 11, artilce 2; Section 12, articles 2, 10 & 3.
also use the Downloads link under the Product Support Tab above to check for a possible firmware update for your drive.
Best Regards
God, grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway,
the good fortune to run into the ones I do
and the eyesight to tell the difference.
