corrupt master file table, drive inaccessible

I have a second hard drive that has a corrupted master file table (MFT). Whenever I try to access the drive, a error message pops up saying that the drive is corrupted and inaccessible.
chkdsk and norton disk doctor can't seem to access of scan the drive.

What should I do to recover my data, besides shipping it to a recovery specialist.

try buying an ide pin adapter so you could hook your laptop's hard drive to a desktop. it's the easiest way to do it.

Take the drive out of the carrier and put it into a desktop and see if it is the drive or the external carrier interface that failed.
