corrupt system 32 file

Hi, (sorry about empty post)
this morning when i switched on my pc is said that a system 32 file was corrupt and I needed to insert the windows instalation disk to fix it. After trying many times I just reinstalled windows. But seeing as all my files were deleted i waneted to know is there anyway for me to get the back. One of my friends had downe the same thing but got his files back. However he did this on a pc he built not a dell.
Thanks in advance.

The registry is corrupt.

The first thing to do, if you have no backup of data on the drive, is to move the drive to a working XP system and make a copy of anything irreplaceable.

Then return the drive to the system, boot, press F12 and run the Dell diagnostics on the drive.

If the drive fails, and you're under warranty, call Dell with the error and they'll send you a replacement. If it fails and you're out of warranty, replace like with like (EIDE with EIDE, SATA with SATA).

If the drive passes, you can either try a recovery - which fails more often than it succeeds (see below) or you can format, reinstall Windows, patch fully, reinstall your applications, and finally restore the backup data you made in the first step.

DO NOT TRY TO RECOVER without a backup.
