jvann, i also received the same error message. Ran diagnostics test & received error code 1000-0142. Called dell support and they are replacing my hard drive. Problem is, i could loose my personal data on my hard drive. Do you know how to recover hard drive data?

Third party data recovery costs 1500 bucks!!!!

you will lose your personal data. you have to return the replaced hard drive. if you have access to an external usb drive (network and are fairly knowledgeable about networks and PE windows versions) try this tool and this website:

http://www.drivesnapshot.de/en/index.htm

http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/

both can help you backup drives.

there is this as well:

i can't give you more help on this, because drive recovery and backing up after failure has already occurred can be extremely difficult and time consuming. the uber-professional software starts at $1000 and goes up. that's why recovery places charge so much. i hope this will help you.
