flashing firmware nec dv 5800a problems
I wonder if someone can give me advice.
I have a Dell dimension 4600 P4 3.0 ghz (800FSB) with 512DDR Ram , 80 GIG Hard Drive , NEC Dvd +RW ND2100AD.
I have just added a second dvd rom a NEC DV 5800a.I have downloaded BR58356 from the dell website as i realised the NEC 5800 wont regonise +dvd media. Movies have only been playing for a few seconds then stop.
The main problem is I have no floppy drive , i have down loaded the file to my hard drive and when trying to extract , to my flash drive a error message states that ''the floppy disc size and the image size do not match'' then stops.
Help !!

Hi Foxxster,
I searched Dell for a possible Windows Base Flash for your drive but it seems the only one available is DOS base. Your options are basically borrow / rent / purchase a floppy drive, or create a folder to unzip the files to, then burn them to a CD, enter the BIOS and change the boot order to CD and see if this works.
My nickel, I would pick up a floppy drive, I know the PC world has wrote off the little guy but he does come in handy, still hanging in there to the very end...
Best Regards
God, grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway,
the good fortune to run into the ones I do and the eyesight to tell the
difference.

Thanks for the good advice.
I used a friends pc and extracted to a floppy then copied onto a cd !
However did not work ! So looks like i shall invest in a floppy drive for about 7 british pounds !
Kind regards
