I'll give you the simple way that requires no DOS and very little user input.
- Firstly, put your Windows CD into your CD-ROM.
- Reboot and do one of two things: 1. Enter the BIOS (F2 on most Inspirons) and go to the startup screen where you should change it so that in the boot order the CD-ROM boots before the HDD. or 2. Do a one time boot (F12 usually) and boot from the CD.
- Now. aftter the licence agreements, etc... before installing windows will ask if you want to format one or all of your partitions. Format whichever ones you want cleaned... this will take a while.
- After the format is done it will continue with the Windows install and when its done you will have a clean system to start with from scratch.

How about you reformat your drive so everything on it is marked as write-overable?
