how to increase disk space

I am new to computers, so please keep any replies very basic.  My  Dimension 3000 went into safe mode and I had to reload Windows XP.  Now, no Dell info shows up on the start screen or anywhere else.  Also, I continuously get a low disk space message which does not clear up even when I clean the disk.  What do I need to do to increase disk space and retrieve all the stuff that was here from Dell?  P.S.  system restore will not get me back to before the safe mode issue.

This has been up for about an hour......can't anyone help???

Hi Frogginmad!

How did you reload Windows? Can you recall the steps?
And what was the problem with the computer before it went to safemode?

Hi!

Being new to computers, I was being stupid and deleted things I didn't understand.  As for reloading Windows XP, I followed the prompts from  the reboot screen......I don't actually have a download disk, either.  Someone suggested deleting partitions and re creating them.  Any thoughts on how to do this?

Thanks for responding:smileyhappy:

Procedures for a manual clean reinstallation of XP on a D-3000.  Note the paragraphs about deleting all partitions and recreating them,

Still, even if you installed XP a second time without deleting the old version, XP takes 3-4 GB of space, and the lowest HD for the 3000 has 40gb.  You must have had some extremely large files, or a BIOS or HD issue.  Post back with reinstall results.

I guess that's one of the best things about rentals!

I thought, that you purchased the system from a store like Costco, did'nt think about a rental unit.

When it comes to stuff like electronics, I like to do the rental thing ....  just in case something goes wrong I can take care of it without a hassel.  Besides, I usually pay off early to avoid paying the amount equal to 3 product!:smileywink:
