installing a memorex DVD recorder

I have a Dimension E521 and would like to know how to install it.

Memorex instructions talk about an IDE connector and Dell tech support diagrams just tell you to plug it in with a different cable/connector.  Help!!

There are two types of interfaces for Optical Drives, IDE (sometimes
referred to as PATA) and SATA (Serial ATA).  The Dimension E521 is an
all SATA system.  IDE and SATA are not interchangable.

To use an IDE drive, you would need to acquire a PCI expansion card
for an IDE interface.  If the drive you have obtained is an IDE drive,
you will be better served to return it and obtain a SATA drive.

Thanks, kept the receipt just in case!  What DVD recorder would you recommend around the $50 range?

Take a look at www.newegg.com for prices and selection.  There are User
ratings and the prices start at the $20-$30 range.  Some good brands are
Plextor, Sony, NEC, Lite-on, Pioneer, etc.  Look at SATA models.

Thanks Skybird!  newegg.com has great prices, however being impatient, didn't want to wait 3 days. I played BestBuy off of CircuitCity and got a good deal.

Bought a Samsung Super-Writemaster.  Install was very easy.  The Nero 7 essentials is just OK for now.

I can't seem to use the lightscribe.

I tried to impose a jpeg image in Nero, but it would not scribe to the disc. (yes, I did have the disc on the appropriate side for image transfer.)

Was also unable in Nero to move the image around to center it to my satisfaction.

any Ideas?

Congradulations on the new drive and installing it.  I am not a
LightScribe user or a Nero user so I cannot be of useful help.
