nec nd 6500a dvd burner not recognised.

I've just bought a used Nec ND 6500a dvd burner for my Dell optiplex sff gx 240 pc. The drive does not show up in either the bios or windows xp. I have tried changing cables etc. I think the drive came from a laptop. The drive shows up on my other pc no problem. and is on firmware v.460? This is really annoying any ideas?
