no boot/registry file failure

Question

HELP NEEDED - receiving a Stop:c0000218 or  windows\system\vagoem.fon messages on my 4700. it will not boot. no safe start. dianostics indicate processor, system board, smbios, video & memory - all ok hard drive error code ofoo;1344  verify, confidence  & read test, fail   device self, seek, and smart tests ok.   also tried various restart options with strart up disk  but only end with one of the two above error messages. what do i do now??  (no response from tech support chat or email)

Replace the hard drive; it is dying. If you must read data from the faulty drive, you can try mounting it as a secondary after reloading the OS on a new drive. If that doesn't work, there is the option of data recovery (prepare for a $2,000+ fee for that though).

Thanks for your fast response!!!  ( the reply that is-not the eye opening & wallet draining solution) It's still under warranty perhaps DELL will reach the same conclusion & replace it?

They'll replace the drive, yes - the data is your responsibility.
