Hi Quarterpat,

Dell has complete instructions on how to perform a manual installation of the operating system. The procedure should have enough detail for you but let me know if you have questions.

I have been experiencing a number of issues and I don't know if they are connected to windows 7 sp1 or IE9 - I reinstalled both after changing my hard drive.

I get a flutter in the bottom taskbar, a skip when I am composing in a browser window such as this one, and it also keeps shutting down and giving me the message below.  I tried to reinstall IE9 and got a message that I could not reinstall it.  Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I'd suggest trying a different browser to see if the problem is replicated.

I switched to Chrome and the fluttering improves and the skipping is also better.  But the system still shuts down.  I can't use Chrome permanently because I teach online and our elearning system (angel) does not support Chrome and the problems persist.  I think I have multiple issues.  Even with Chrome I also am getting a message that mini-dump files are being created when the system shuts down.    I looked in windows files and the system is creating a series of mini-bump files.  Also, everytime it shuts down when i reboot I get the ask window about booting normally.

I don't know if this tells you anything and I very much appreciate your advice.

I want you to turn off automatic restart. This will prevent the computer from shutting off and restarting in the event of a blue screen error. Instead, you'll actually see the blue screen and we can use that to learn more about the problem.

Hit the windows key and type advanced. Find View Advanced System Settings. This will put you on the Advanced tab of the system properties window. Under Startup and Recovery, click the settings button, then UNCHECK the box that says automatically restart, then click OK.

Now open your browser and see if a blue screen error is generated. If so, write it down.

I did this and did not get a blue screen.  I'll see if it shuts down and I can get the error message I have been getting..  Again, thanks for your help.

Ok, this isn't helpful. And you are not getting any blue screen error?

Let me suggest a new plan of attack. At this point we still have no idea whether you have a hardware or software problem, so let's run the complete Dell diagnostics using your Dell drivers and utilities disc. I've got a link to the instructions below. This tests all of the hardware without any influence from the operating system. Be sure to run the extended hard drive test.

That error is not important. It means the diagnostics can't test your card reader without a memory card.

What I need you to do is write down the actual text that appears on the blue screen.

okay.  i will get that.

I'm sorry but that is not the text of the actual blue screen error. I'm not sure how else to explain the information I need you to provide.
