switched HDDs & got blue screen error

Question

I'm not sure if this is the correct board for this. My motherboard had failed on my Dimension 4400.  I want to access the main hard drive from it.  Someone has given me a Dimension 2400 they no longer use, & I thought I could just remove that HDD, & put my own in its place, but found out that won't work.  I get a blue screen error -- 0X0000007B (0XF97D528, 0XC0000034, 0X00000000, 0X00000000).  The 2400 does work fine with its original HDD installed. From searching the forums, I'm guessing I would have to re-install Windows XP to get my drive to work in the 2400.  Is that the case?  Wouldn't that wipe out my HDD?

Yes, you will need to format the drive and reload Windows, and yes it will indeed wipe out the drive in the process.
