unallocated space

I have a dimension 2400 with xp and I was looking in the disk management and seen that I have a
C: with 19.53 GB NTFS healthy (system)      And then I have 18.75 GB unallocated space.

I have read that you should keep your operating system and programs on the C: and you should have another drive for all of your photos, music, etc.

Is this true??  And if it is, how do I go about making the 18.75 GB usable or allocated.  I am no computer wizard, so please make it as simple as you can.

Thank you so much for any help.

Use disk management, in admionistrative tools, to partition the remainder of your system drive.

What you heard is good advice (surprisingly! :)). My suggestion would be to use that partition for all of your data, pictures, documents, etc. If you use "My Documents", you can use folder properties to move this to the other partition.

Yes, that's exactly what you do. You want to create an NTFS partition.

Once I'm in the computer management, should I right click on the allocated portion and then follow the new partition wizard from there?   It's a little confusing because it doesn't really tell you which one you are on?

Thanks again!!!
