windows root\system32\ntoskrnl.exe is missing. Please help!!!

I turned on my laptop saturday to do some college work and this message appeared on the screen

 

windows could start becuase the following file is mssing or corrupt

windows root/system32/ntoskrnl.exe

 

I have no idea about this kind of computing and really need some advise on how to fix it. Please can anyone help?
