Dell Update app on Windows 10
I can't get a new installation of Dell Update to open in a 3195 2 in 1 laptop. Trying for hours, reinstalling, rebooting. Any hints? I deleted the previous install, and the last installation seemed to go without error.

Since my last post I have installed the "Dell SupportAssist OS Recovery Plugin for Dell Update...." on the computer I have had problems with Dell Update on and when I run Dell Support Assist/Update it doesn't return any updates or errors. The stand-alone Dell Update app still doesn't run on this computer. I have two other computers that run Dell Update fine- you can click Check and the program does its thing and either Updates are found or not. Dell SupportAssist also runs well on both. So I have spent enough time on this, I am going to use Dell SupportAssist on the one computer and Dell Update on the others. BTW the computer that won't run Dell Update is a Dell Inspiron 11 3195 2-in-1, the others are Dell Inspiron 3646 Small Desktop (shipped in 2014 still working OK!) and Dell Inspiron 13 7368 2-in-1, All are running Windows 10 Home 21H1, none with the optional Cumulative Update.

Hi eaclark:
The support page <here> for your problem Inspiron 3195 2-in-1 offers two versions of the current Dell Update v4.2.1, Dell Update Application for Windows 10 [the Universal Windows Program (UWP) app for Win 10] and Dell Update Application (the "old-style" Win32 installed program). Do you know which one you use on this computer?
I was having problems with an older verison of the installed Dell Update (the Win32 program). I wiped Dell Update off my system using Revo Uninstaller Free (see detailed instructions in my Feb 2020 thread Inspiron 5584 - Dell Update Notification "The system has been updated") and then installed Dell Update for Windows 10 (the UWP app), and this UWP app seems to work better on my system since the clean reinstall.
Dell Update and Dell SupportAssist are closely integrated, especially if you have installed the SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools (listed as SupportAssist Remediation at Control Panel | Programs | Programs and Features) and have System Repair ENABLED in your Dell SupportAssist settings at Option (gear icon) Settings | System Repair | System Repair is Turned On as shown below. If a clean install of Dell Update Application for Windows 10 (the UWP app) doesn't help it might be necessary to do a complete reinstall of Dell SupportAssist and all its associated components (including the latest Dell SupportAssist OS Recovery Plugin for Dell Update) as described in DELL-Chris M's pinned post SA Uninstall / Reinstall to get Dell Update functioning correctly again.
One other possibility is that Dell Update is trying to install an update for the latest SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools v5.4.1.14954 and will not load correctly while this update is trying to run to completion in the background. There have been several problems reported with installation of this update (see my April 2021 thread Problem Updating To SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools v5.4.1.14594), including loss of personal data that is not stored on C:\ drive. However, the possibility that you have an unfinished SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools installation running in the background seems less likely on your Inspiron 3195 given that your Dell SupportAssist runs correctly on that problem machine.

Thanks for your very thorough reply. I'm too old to do more than try to delete apps the easy way and install alternatives. So, I deleted whatever Dell Update app I had on the 3195 and downloaded Dell Update for Windows 10 from Dell. It installed fine but didn't open. I then deleted Dell Update. I ran Dell Update from the Dell web site, and the computer was said to be up to date. I then ran Dell Support-Assist and ran just the Update part of that. It also said I was up to date. So there it stands. If nothing else, I'll go online to Dell's web site to run Dell Update. That seemed to work fine, although I hope it will result in an update if something needs to be updated.
Thanks again!

Thank you for the explanation. I uninstalled SupportAssist Apps (all programmes and apps with that title) as well as Dell Command Update app; reinstalled SupportAssist App and it seems to work.
