Is cfgmgr and emc_cfgmgr same for AIX host in a VMAX attached environment??

Are these two commands are different and should be run to rebuild the ODM database and host configuration on AIX ?, Can someone explain what these commands actually do in a symmetrix attached environment ?

host connectivity guide for AIX says:

Adding devices online

Whenever devices are added online to the Symmetrix system or
device channel addresses are changed, you must run the emc_cfgmgr
script to introduce the new devices to the system:
1. Change directory to /usr/lpp/EMC/Symmetrix/bin.
2. Invoke the shell script emc_cfgmgr.
Whenever TimeFinder devices are configured by the host, they are
forced to a defined state. To configure all defined Symmetrix
TimeFinder devices and set them to an available state, enter:
mkbcv -a

honestly i've never used emc_cfgmgr ..cfgmgr has always worked for me.

Hi ,

For AIX OS we can run cfgmgr to rescan luns, It will update the ODM file set and  in my environment we use VIO servers contains LPARS for that we used to run cfgmgr and VXDCTL _ENABLE command too to update ODM file set.

cfmmgr is equal to ioscan in hp-ux, scan the devices and you can pass diffrent arguments/options with the ioscan

cfgmgr rescans the bus and creates device files (hdisk) , on HPUX in addition to ioscan you also have to run insf ...so an extra step.
