The requirements of Gatekeeper device in Solutions Enabler control host for SRDF
The requirements of Gatekeeper device in Solutions Enabler control host for SRDF
Introduction
This article describes few common errors caused by lack of Symmetrix Gatekeeper (GK) device in Solutions Enabler control host and provides the recommendation of the number of GK devices for SRDF.
Detailed Information
Solutions Enabler is an EMC software component used to control the storage features of Symmetrix arrays. It receives user requests via CLI, GUI, or other means, and generates system commands that are transmitted to the Symmetrix array for action. Gatekeeper devices are LUNs that act as the target of command requests to Enginuity-based functionality. These commands arrive in the form of disk I/O requests. As more commands are issued in parallel from the host, and as the commands grow in complexity, more gatekeepers will be required to handle the commands in a timely manner.
In SRDF environment, if there are insufficient number of GK devices. Usually, following errors occur in host, storage and Solutions Enabler control hosts:
1. 1.Randomly SC_DISK_ERR4 temporary disk operation errors occur on multiple volumes and Fibre Channels, SENSE DATA is 0102.

2. Error 503E.02 (rejected write to local consistent group) appears from Symmetrix array internally, Severity is Informational.
3. GK errors occur in SRDF Solutions Enabler host.

4. If it’s in SRDF/AR environment, replication may be interrupted.
The requirements of GK devices on Solutions Enabler SRDF Hosts are shown below:
- Solution enabler 7.0: 20 + [# of Consistency Group] * 0.5
- Solution enabler 7.1: 6 + [# of Consistency Group] * 0.5
- Solution enabler 7.2 and above: 6 + [# of Consistency Group] * 0.3
