Can't Upgrade Dell Venue 8 Pro to Windows 10 1511

I've tried upgrading my Dell Venue 8 Pro running Windows 10 to the Windows 10 Update from November (1511); everything goes well unitl the device restarts and then it gets to "Updating Windows 40%" and stalls. This has happened twice now. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Michael

This applies to 5830: I could not update to windows 10 1803 - automatic update install failed and then just a continuous loop to the screen with options such as reset, recovery, continue, options, etc. - none worked. I found the answer here: http://blog.ultimateoutsider.com/2017/09/how-to-install-windows-10-on-dell-venue.html Essentially what was needed is:

1. a micro usb male to usb 2.0 female On-The-Go (OTG) converter cable (I paid $6 for 3 cables on Amazon) to allow usb to be connected.

2. a powered usb hub, usb mouse and keyboard and 8GB or larger empty usb thumb drive.

3. if you can still boot your 5830, save any documents to external drive or cloud. My machine would not boot so whatever I had on it was lost.

4. download the windows tool to create installation media here https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

5. make sure the tablet is fully charged (4 hours plus on charger). It will get some power from usb hub but probably not enough. My machine discharged about 60% through this process while on powered usb hub.

6. attach keyboard, mouse and thumb drive containing windows installation media to hub and attach to 5830 port where power is normally plugged to.

7. on the blue screen that I got with options for continue, recovery, options, etc, I clicked on ADVANCED OPTIONS at the bottom. Then clicked on option of USE A DEVICE for update and picked usb drive.

8. after install started, click CUSTOM INSTALL. When it got to choose partition, pick largest partition (mine was 22 GB), delete it and then install to that partition (otherwise got error the windows could not be installed due to Bitlocker protection).

9. after install of windows (it worked!) I installed Dell Wireless 1538 WiFi/Bluetooth  Driver  https://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/product-support/product/dell-venue-8-pro/drivers  go to this page      and click VIEW MORE at bottom to find driver (download to usb thumb drive and connect through powered usb hub).

10. after wifi installed, connect to internet and go to same dell page as in #9 where wifi driver was downloaded and click on DETECT DRIVERS in blue box near top of page. Install chipset driver and bios. Then I installed Dell SUPPORT ASSIST  which scanned my machine and automatically updated software, scanned hardware, cleaned files, tuned performance and optimized network (cool!).

11. disconnect powered usb hub and put on power supply.

12. if virtual keyboard is missing (mine was), touch and hold notification bar at bottom of screen for a few seconds and keyboard will appear.

13. go to windows UPDATE AND SECURITY and update with 5830 connected to power supply.

Ultimate Outsider did a great job outlining how to do this. I have changed a few things but if you have problems, see the posting at http://blog.ultimateoutsider.com/2017/09/how-to-install-windows-10-on-dell-venue.html
