Thanks, Robert - Google says it's quite common, with more than a few links on the Dell Community website: www.google.com/search - seems like it's quite dangerous, too.
Unfortunately, when I called Dell (chat doesn't work), I was told $269 to fix the tablet, or take it to a repair shop locally (not sure who). Maybe I'll try to replace the battery myself.
