Consistency Group for VMware

First off we are not using the VMware integration in Unity (I haven't heard good things about it so we are not using it). We are using the block LUNs attached to the ESXi Hosts.

New Unity install here....I'm thinking about using a consistency group for our VMware cluster just for keeping all the LUNs / datastores together and assigned to the VM host cluster. We would add a new LUN when needed to the consistency group which already has the host access assigned. No replication or snapshots needed for this CG. We have another CG with LUNs that are replicated. We would have around 10 to 15 LUNs in this CG.

Are there any reasons I wouldn't want to do this?

Thanks in advanced.

Right now i am not going to use Consistency groups. Still need to do some more investigation.

What I have discovered so far, is that when you put luns into a Consistency group, they no longer show up in the Main Lun view window. When using powershell, without the updated Get-UnityLun, it won't display them either. Standard luns show up just fine, but when a lun gets added to a Consistency Group, it's TYPE get's changed. Seems like Storage Group concept is not available in Unity like VNX arrays.

Yes, indeed. Unity is still missing the "Storage Groups" like they are available on VNX/Clarion.

It's a shame this basic and vital functionality is still missing
