TDEV MIGRATION IN V_MAX(5874.248.194)

Hi Team,

We are using virtual provisioning in our environment. We have allcoated on Thin dev RAID5(7+1)(200GB Hyper) to one of our SQL data base server.Currently they are facing perfomance issues with this Thin device, so they have requested us to migrate the lun from one thin pool to another thin pool.

Our SMC Verion..V7.1.1.2

I have checked in our SMC Console of VMAX Array. The options of Virtual Lun migration features were in greyed out under

tasks view > operations > migration and rep > migrate.

Here my Queations are:

1) How i can explain to them as there is no problem with our Storage array becasue we have allocated Thin device with 200 single lun and our pool utilization also 69%.

2)Once i migrate the Thin device from one thin pool to another thinpool is the is the perfomance problem resolved.?

Please advise!!!many thanks in advace.

hi Sathish,

Lun Migration for TDEV is not available with 5874 code, its only available from 5875 and SE/SMC 7.2 and if its just one device, then as Dynamox said dig deeper through SPA or performance manager to identify the bottleneck.

Go to Diagnostic view, double click on the storage group it will open another tab with all the devices in that storage group. Your SPA version (2.0) is very old, not sure if it gives that much granular information.

Are you sure the problem is backend related?   Because VP spreads the IO over the backend very well, it is likely the problem is the frontend, not the backend.
