VNX5300 / SRM 5 / Which SRA???

Hi Guys,

Having some difficulty figuring out the correct SRA(s?) needed for SRM.

setup:

- VNX5300

- SRM 5

- SRA 5.0.7 mirrorview

- VSI 5.0.1

- VNX SRA 5.0.1

- snapview

- naviseccli

at the moment I am getting the known error:

Unable to add array manager:

Internal error: std::exception 'class Vmacore::Xml::XMLParseException' "Invalid document structure".

Which is resolved in SRA 5.0.7 for mirror view, covered in other thread here.

in the SRM logs, its still detecting 5.0.1:

2011-12-28T12:33:20.809Z [05884 info 'Storage'] Registered SRA '6b1170c8-22a0-39da-80fa-5a1ab4d9e3a2': (dr.storage.StorageAdapter.Info) {

--> dynamicType = ,

--> uuid = "6b1170c8-22a0-39da-80fa-5a1ab4d9e3a2",

--> installPath = "C:/Program Files (x86)/VMware/VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager/storage/sra/EMC VNX SRA",

--> name = (dr.storage.LocalizableString) {

--> dynamicType = ,

--> key = "6b1170c8-22a0-39da-80fa-5a1ab4d9e3a2.AdapterName",

--> text = "EMC VNX SRA",

--> },

--> version = "5.0.1",  <- This is the SRA version

--> vendor = (dr.storage.LocalizableString) {

--> dynamicType = ,

--> key = "6b1170c8-22a0-39da-80fa-5a1ab4d9e3a2.AdapterVendor",

--> text = "EMC",

--> },

--> helpUrl = "http://www.emc.com",

--> }

Which is referring to the VNX SRA.

however, we are still getting the above XMLparse error

can anyone shed some light on exactly what I should have installed and in what order?

attaching screenshot from VC showing plugins

Thx!

I'm sure you found the following checklist of things to look for when you encounter such behavior (emc269523):

  • Ensure that connection sets are not crossed in the zoning. SPA_Array1 must be zoned to SPA_Array2 and SPB_Array1 must be zoned to SPB_Array2. These connections cannot be crossed, that is SP A to SP B and SP B to SP A.

  • Ensure that you are using the correct ports that have been allocated as MirrorView ports.

  • Ensure that the Fibre Channel port speeds both on the arrays and switches are identical.

However, not listed, would be to also verify that the MV ports are not already endpoints for SAN Copy connections.  Probably just a reminder, while SAN Copy can be established on the MirrorView ports (port 0 on the VNX as Bryan noted), the features can't be running at the same time.  Just a thought...

Hi Meob,

Have you performed a "Rescan a SRAs" within SRM and/or restarted the SRM service on both sites?  If you have done this, could you please attach or send the rest of the log file (I sent you a private message with my contact info)?

The EMC VNX SRA version (5.0.1) reported in the SRM logs is correct.  The MirrorView Enabler for EMC VNX SRA v5.0.7 also looks correct.

Best Regards,

Bryan Neumann

some additional info:

When I try and enable a mirrorview path from the cli I get the below error. Could this be the problem?

NaviSECCli.exe -h 192.168.20.15 -user srm -password ******** -scope 0 mirror -enablepath 192.168.20.12 -connectiontype fibre

Enabling path failed.

192.168.20.15 to 192.168.20.12 The attached array specified was not found or had no valid ports to enable/disable

192.168.20.12 to 192.168.20.15 The attached array specified was not found or had no valid ports to enable/disable

Hi Bryan.

Thanks for the reply.

Yes, we have rebooted the VC server on both sites & preformed rescans on both sites as well.

I have recieved new logs form both sites (SRM), I can forward these via email.

Thanks

(attaching  logs here as well)

Yes, that appears to be the issue.  Note that the MirrorView port number on VNX for each SP is 0 instead of 4 as it used to be.

The logs you provided indicate that the SRA does not see any peer arrays; the SRA executes the NaviSECCLI command mirror -sync -info -systems with the output "Remote systems that can be enabled for mirroring:"  (there should be a peer array shown after the this statement).

Hi Chris,

Thanks for your suggestions. Your quite right, as it turns out.

There seems to be no zoning setup at all for the MirrorView side of the setup.

I’ll keep your suggestions in my notes for the next time

Thanks

Dave

Sorry,

can you tell me where you downloaded SRA MirrorView 5.0.7 ?

I can't find it, and I need it because I've a problem with SRA 5.0.38, as described in this thread :

     https://community.emc.com/people/ERCEA_LSA/activity

Could you send it to me via email?

I would be very grateful.
