Quota reporting question

Recently I've enabled soft quotas for all users on a particular VNX file system containing their Home drives.  When the quota is exceeded an alert is generated in the VNX's log which reads something like this (pay attention to the "Message" line, particularly the underlined uid):

Severity:  Warning

System:  (the system name)

Domain:  Local

Created:  the date and time

Message:  Slot 3:  Block soft quota crossed (fs /root_vdm_2/AMHOME_DM3, uid 37423

Full Description:  Block soft quota limit has been crossed for a specified user, gourp or tree ID in the error message

The problem is the uid does notidentify the user by logon name.  There may be close to 1000 people with home directories in this share.

How is it possible to match the uid with a logon name?

Thank you.

Usermapper export or lookup via server_cifssupport

Other alternative is to look at 3rd party quota software like from NTP or Northern

Rainer,

server_usermapper is the key.  Thank you for pointing me in that direction.

Make sure you understand that not in all cases the mappings would come from usermapper

Also don’t overload the control stations by doing a usermapper export every time you need to resolve a UID
