VNX 5300 block level windows host adding steps

Dear All,

Am a newbee for EMC...i need steps to add a Win 2k8 R2 X64 host to add to VNX-5300 unified block storage.

All i have done till now is initializing SP and creating a storage group. I cannot see any host list in VNX.

Its a IBM H series chassis with Qlogic HBA for HS23 blade connected to Cisco MDS 9148 and VNX 5300 to same 9148.

Please provide me softwares reqd in win2k8 to initiate connection to storage.

Consider moving this discussion to VNX Support Forum (Actions > Move).

You have to register the hosts if the HBA is logged in at the VNX side. You may have to do the zoning for the host on the MDS-9148 if zone config is already enabled.Once the host is registered you will be able to add the same to storage group. You can add the LUNs once created to the Storage group for making it visible at the host side.

You may refer https://elabnavigator.emc.com/emcpubs/elab/config_guide/windows.pdf

"You have to register the hosts if the HBA is logged in at the VNX side"

how do u do the above... is it by using wwn+wpn ID of server and adding it at initiators in unisphere...

Are you getting some WWN details in Hosts>Initiators ?

If you are getting some WWN (of the host ), you should register them by clicking register.

If not, you will have to check the connectivity, zoning in MDS-9148 etc..

Check if the switch is having zoning configured. If yes, you will have to add zones for the storage-host to the active zoneset.

see

show zoneset active

show zoneset brief

etc..

to see the zoning status.

Also as I mentioned in my first reply, please consider moving this discussion to VNX Support Forum (Actions > Move).

Yes i see this. 1-6 is of server, 7-10 is of storage

It goes on....Its all in vsan 1... Is it some thing like IBM Qlogic adapter in blade is not able to communicate to FC module on the chassis... bcoz i can see wwn of FC module & storage on MDS switch.

Need help.

ok, then why in your zones you have two initiators instead of one initiator and one target ?

we have 2 WWN / blade...so i suppose there are two initiators

Are you trying to set up Boot from SAN ? or do you have an OS on the host ?

We had fun with UCS blades (boot from SAN) and had to set the boot order in UCSM to get all the HBAs to show up on the VNX.

Also make sure you look in the Initiators tab not the Hosts tab in Unisphere.

i am not trying to boot from SAN. I need storage as a block only for windows and linux host.

I played a lot with UCS 5108-B200 M3 blades and resolved. but this IBM H series chassis with HS-23 & HX-5 is not helping any way.
