Very slow file transfer with VNX5200

Downloading SPcollects takes very long, about 40minutes for a ~40MB zip file.

Also uploading new firmware or new softwareversion takes very long. I started uploading the VNX-Block-Operating-Environment-05.33.009.5.184 update file 45 minutes ago and it went from 96kb to 256kb (of 617,2 MB total).

This is the 2nd try from another client. Using the first client, Softwareupload started showing 1,6MB of of 617,2 MB and stayed there for serveal hours.

Otherwise the VNX and network runs fine.

There are a few things you can do:

  • First, you can try restarting the management servers on both SPs. See KB https://support.emc.com/kb/427074 for details on how to do that. This is not a disruptive operation. After that, retry the operations.
  • In order to be sure this is not a management network problem. You can try directly connecting (no switch) to the ethernet management port on an SP and checking if the file transfer speed is still slow.
  • You can also try the service LAN port connection on the SP (the ethernet port with a wrench label). If you are not sure how to connect to that port, just create a Service Request with support.

The steps should isolate the problem further and let you know if its a network problem or something related to the VNX itself. In either case, creating a Service Request with support wouldn't be a bad idea.

Ii was an issue with the management interface.

We had a service technician onsite to update our VNX via the service port.

After the update, file transfer was fine.
