What is "Recovery Image" and "Utility Partition" ?
Hi,
We are going to upgrade VNX5100 from OE 31 to OE 32.
Consultant says that there is an extra step for "Utility partition" & "Recovery Image" installation that will take around 2 hours.
We would like to get more understanding of what is "R32 utility partition and recovery image" ? Where will they be installed / updated ?
Thanks

Hi Tony,
The Utility Partition is a tool used to perform Diagnostics and Recovery or re-imaging of one, or both SPs.
For installation and upgrade, you have to contact EMC Support Team.
Thanks

Does it mean that both "Utility Partition" and "Recovery Image" are used by EMC Engineer (i.e. not for end users) ?
Do we need to reboot the SPs during installation ?
Thanks again

Yes, they are not intended for use by end users.
IME, no reboot is required for installation. Generally they are re-installed/upgraded when software major versions are installed (IE goinf from an R31 release to R32)
