McAfee Security Center
I subscribed to the McAffe Security Center when I purchased my Dimension 8400 on 12-2-04. The virus scan comes with a adware/spyware detector/remover built into the program. Is McAffe all the protection I need to prevent adware/spyware or any other unwanted programs from infecting my new system? Or should I also purchase a program designed just for adware/spyware protection?

There are alot of free programs to help with spyware and adware. If you click on the first post you can find a Q&A section on spyware and virus'. This will also give you places to go to get the free programs.
All that being said. I also have McAfee. Several months ago I got a trojan.....had to wipe my hard drive clean. Then I installed The Adaware SE software. I also have the anti spy program that came with DSL Yahoo. These two things have helped alot. But.......to answer your question as to if the McAfee virus scan is enough.......I would say no. Because when I got the trojan, I had McAFee virus scan. McAfee recognized the trojan immediately and told me it had been installed on my computer. I tried to delete it, to quarentine it.......and couldn't. I then got spybot (also a free program) and it couldn't really fix the problem either. So I wiped the drive clean. I re-installed the adaware Se program and the DSL Yahoo anti spyware. I run them both once a week to check for problems. I also got McAfee Security IE, and I can't really tell you if it works that well. But I have it anyway.
When I run the Adaware Se program, I always get all kinds of tracking cookies that show up. I delete them. I don't know if this is a good thing to do or not, because when I go to delete them, adaware says I might be deleting cookies that came with software that I have installed on my computer. But I also have several friends that have told me they delete their tracking cookies. You might want to find out if deleting the tracking cookies is a good thing to do before you do it.
Hope this helps a little. I'm not an expert by any stretch of the imagination. I'm learning myself as I go along.
