RE: Updates 8/9/16 - "Microsoft Tuesday"

This month's MSRT (cited above) adds detection/removal of:

BrowserModifier: Win32/Neobar  - a browser modifier that can change your web browser settings without adequate consent.

and

Win32/Rovnix - a malware family can download other threats onto your PC, such as Win32/Carberp and Win32/Vundo

For additional information, see https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/mmpc/2016/08/09/msrt-august-2016-release-adds-neobar-detection/

RE: Updates 8/9/16 - "Microsoft Tuesday"

An observation:  BEFORE allowing Windows to search for updates, I first downloaded/installed the APPROPRIATE version of

MS16-098 Security Update for Windows Kernel-Mode Drivers (3178466)

[ which actually is numbered as kb 3177725 ]

After doing so (and rebooting), I allowed Windows Updates to search, and it found the remaining updates in just a few minutes emoticon.Smile.title  .

Perhaps just a coincidence?   I can't say with any certainty.

RE: Updates 8/9/16 - "Microsoft Tuesday"

Here We Go Again: Windows 10 Cumulative Update KB3176493 Failing to Install

Some of the reports that we’ve come across while searching for more information about these issues claim that Windows 10 cumulative update KB3176493, which is specifically aimed at PCs running version 1511 (November Update), fails to install and instead returns an error saying that updates “couldn’t be installed, undoing changes.”

news.softpedia.com/.../here-we-go-again-windows-10-cumulative-update-kb3176493-failing-to-install-50...

That link describes exactly my Win 10 update experience. Gotta love those automatic updates ... I'll just wait for the automatic fix.
