Vundo Trojan

Hello,

I have McAfee VirusScan and it just picked up a "vundo trojan".  It says it cannot be cleaned.  Can you please help me to remove this virus from my computer? I tried VirtumondoBeGone and it didnt help.  Thanks

Becky

"Please download and run Atribune's VundoFix, per directions here: "

If the fix works please reply as were are trying to gauge the efectiveness of this tool.

If you continue to have problems

Go here and download Hijackthis

http://dsvs.org/5/HijackThis.exe

Save it in a convenient permanent folder such as C:\\HJT\\, double click HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan". When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button. Press that, save the log, Ctrl-A to Select All, and copy its contents AT THE LINK BELOW

Please do not be tempted to "fix" on your own. Hijackthis is a very powerful tool, if used incorrectly can cause system problems

I am having the same problem and everytime I try to delete, quarantine or clean it it says it isnt possible because it is write-protected. What exactly does that mean? I have no clue what to do I have tried a little bit of everything and nothing seems to work. If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated.

I had this problem too.  I seen around here in some other post with the same topic.  There is a link to download software that removes it called vundofix.  I downloaded it and ran the program. I didn't see any problem when I restarted my computer after it was done.  I got a question about the hijack this thing.  I've seen post about that, and was wondering if I have to do anything additional after running the vundofix program or if that was all I had to do?

yes, run Atribune's VundoFix.... [which should not be confused with the similarly-named Symantec FixVundo tool]

Thanks for responding, I'm Glad to hear your problem has been resolved.

I would still suggest posting an HJT log, so we can be sure

The  Instructions again for doing this are

Go here and download Hijackthis

http://dsvs.org/5/HijackThis.exe

Save it in a convenient permanent folder such as C:\\HJT\\, double click HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan". When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button. Press that, save the log, Ctrl-A to Select All, and copy its contents AT THE LINK BELOW

Please do not be tempted to "fix" on your own. Hijackthis is a very powerful tool, if used incorrectly can cause system problems

If the Vundo-fix tool has resolved your issue then there is no need to post a HJT log.

If you are still having problems then

Go here and download Hijackthis

http://dsvs.org/5/HijackThis.exe

Save it in a convenient permanent folder such as C:\\HJT\\, double click HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan". When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button. Press that, save the log, Ctrl-A to Select All, and copy its contents AT THE LINK BELOW

And include the problems you are having

I've also downloaded that Vundo-fix tool from above and it seems to be working.  However, I am not sure how to post the HiJack this report they requested.  If somebody could help me with that, that would be great.

Hi,

I tried with Atribune's VundoFix tool......and it was wonderful. It removed the Trojan Vundo virus and the system is working fine now.

However it did not work with the "Run VundoFix as a task" mode.

Thanks a lot for your guidance and help.
