Very slow

I bought brand new DELL VOSTRO 3501 in JANUARY 2021. Its running too slow than expected. I haven't installed any heavy software . Just visual studio code and typing master.yet it takes so much time to load . Even takes a minute or two to open Google Chrome. Seriously I am disappointed . Do I have to add more ram to my inbuilt 4 gb ram ?

I am a student and learning coding . And slower performance of this laptop is just demotivating me to do so.

A laptop with an i3 CPU (the 3501) is basic entry level CPU. Performance is at low end.

You can add more memory.  Dell memory list:

Memory
Table 5. Memory specifications
Description Values
Slots Two SODIMM slots
Type DDR4
Speed 2666 MHz
Maximum memory 16 GB
Minimum memory 4 GB
Configurations supported ● 4 GB DDR4 at 2666 MHz (1x4 GB)
● 8 GB DDR4 at 2666 MHz (2 x 4 GB)
● 8 GB DDR4 at 2666 MHz (1 x 8 GB)
● 12 GB DDR4 at 2666 MHz (1 x 8 GB + 1 x 4 GB)
● 16 GB DDR4 at 2666 MHz (1 x 16 GB)
● 16 GB DDR4 at 2666 MHz (2 x 8 GB)

This slow is due to latest windows 10 update, it caused a lot of issues specifically about slow,

To fix this issue download any old windows 10 since 2019 or search on Google how to stop latest updates of windows 10 to get your laptop fixed of the slow.

To be honest, this processor i3-1005G1 is not exactly fast, according to Passmark it only scores 5150, that is not very fast, although, it is also way better than any Celeron and better than entry level. Entry level is Celeron class and those are very very slow.

I also strongly advise to upgrade your installed RAM, this is usually the bottleneck for everything. If you have it configured with 4 GB, get an additional 4GB RAM module, if you did buy it with 8GB, get another 8GB module.

If you ordered this Dell notebook with a hard drive, also consider upgrading to an SSD. This should also help to improve speed.

The main problem though, this CPU only has 2 Cores and a 2 Core CPU today, you can't expect it to perform great. The additional threads help a bit, but you cannot beat cores with additional threads.

I would in general not advise buying any notebook that comes with a 2 core CPU anymore, the CPU should at least have 4 cores or more (and no Celeron and no Pentium please).
