Bios update isn't going to work when all of the chipset and management engine drivers are missing.

Battery wont be recognized for the same reason.

All of the yellow ! in device manager must be gone.

So with a latitude you download the One driver to rule them all cab file

Then right click on any unknown things and generic things like smbus controller and say update my machine from my machine not the internet.

There were no yellow '!' in device manager, everything was shown as working. And if that were the case, why would reinstalling an older version work fine?

Where x is some digit. In math (and computer science), x is generally understood to stand for some numeric value.

Keep in mind that Not supported DOES NOT MEAN not working.

I have windows 10 running on machines as old as Optiplex GX620 from 2006.

It is NOT supported and only has VISTA drivers but with at least windows vista WDDM drivers works fine for

EVERYTHING.

This is why you can still buy ancient dells on Amazon, Ebay, Walmart, Lambro Inc etc and they come with windows 10 pre installed.  Many shops still sell systems with windows 7 because people do not like 10.

But there is nothing wrong with 10 IMHO  YMMV.

Microsoft has quietly extended the 10 upgrade path by allowing you to use a 7 COA key or 8 or 8.1 license in bios to clean install 10.

I highly recommend buying a windows 10 Home OEM system builder DVD.

That will allow you to install 10 on systems with home or pro 7 or 8 or 10.

DRIVE AND DVD allows F12 clean install for ANY Dell from 2006 to 2019.

Other than specific Laptops and All in Ones 10 works fine on every Dell I own or have owned since 2006.

Chipset and Management Engine Components are Required for bios updates.  No idea what you mean by "Latitudes (7x40 series)"  there is no such model. There is an E7240 and E7440.

The Dell Command Driver cab file should be downloaded to the Documents library and then extracted in the my documents folder using 7zip.

Then any mis identified components should be updated from my machine not from online.

Then windows update should be run to add the DOTNET and other nonsense that needs to be updated AGAIN.

The x is a place holder.  It may stand for 2 or 4 or whatever the second number might be in that series. 

I just noticed the same problem with a Precision M4700 with Win10 1903.

I just fixed it by "uninstalling" both batteries from device manager, then telling Device Manager to "Scan for hardware changes."

The same device names reappeared in the "Batteries" section, but now my battery appears in the battery report.

It confirmed what I already knew. My battery is garbage :Surprise:

It is worth saying that I upgraded every available driver, including the BIOS. None of them helped at all. It was only forcing it to re-detect the batteries in device manager that worked.
