Inspiron 620 upgrade to W10
This is 2011 hardware with OEM W7 from Dell factory. It is 64bit 8GB RAM. I need it for home use web-browsing, word-processing, still picture editing. Is the machine up to running W10?

There are a number of threads about running Win 10 on the Inspiron 620. Have you searched for them? For example, here.
You may have to dig for some drivers if Win 10 doesn't install them automatically because Dell doesn't support Win 10 on this model. And you'll have to wipe the hard drive and do a clean install so make sure all your files are backed up on external media. Even better, image the hard drive with Win 7 still on it using something like the free version of Macrium Reflect so you can quickly revert if the upgrade goes badly.
Make sure you have the Product Keys for all your apps because you'll have to re-install them once Win 10 is up and running, eg MS Office, etc.
And it appears that you can still legally upgrade from Win 7 to Win 10 for free.

Thank you for the explanation and the links. Keys I have. A clean install, with drivers going missing might be a problem for me to do myself, paid help might be needed.
I like the sound of FREE where do I find that? please say more

The inspiron 620 has many issues not the least of which is that it does not support AHCI. A newer Dell that fully supports 10 with 10 installed costs less than the Windows Software alone.

Drivers for this model are Vista or Win7
10 is not supported on this model.
Not supported does not mean not working just that there wont ever be 10 drivers.
Chipset, Video, Audio drivers are all that usually is required. You can in fact use windows 10 DVD and the WIN7 COA Key to install 10 clean then install the OEM chipset, audio and video drivers.

Thanks for the helpful responses, I'm weighing up my options. Since nobody commented negatively about the machine being eight years old (i3/8GB RAM) I take it that once the installation has been done W10 will work fine.

You're welcome.
If you get the free upgrade from Win 7 to Win 10, it won't cost you anything but the time to install Win 10 to find out how it works on this ancient PC.
And then you can make a decision...

If you are going to the trouble to get Windows10, consider upgrading your i3 to i5-2500K. That upgrade made my mother's old 620 run much better.
