XPS 13 9365 with Windows 11 dismal battery life

The XPS 13 9365 (i7-8500Y, 16GB, 1TB SSD) with Windows 11 lasts less than 2 hours under moderate load, like emails and web browsing. The same laptop lasted multiple hours with Windows 10 under heavier tasks, like movie watching. The battery is in "excellent" condition according to BIOS and the laptop runs in the "balanced" power mode.

One note, when Windows 11 installs, it leaves a large number of "unknown devices" in Device Manager. It requires 5 additional manually installed drivers to recognize all hardware. Not likely that this has anything to do with poor battery life, but just in case mentioning it.

Has anyone else seen such a dramatic degradation?

I had an old XPS 13 9343 laying in the drawer and for the kicks of it decided to install Windows 11 on it. It actually is quite snappy and, to my surprise, has a better battery life than the 9365. Granted, those both laptops are older models, but it's hard for me to understand why the battery life would be so much worse than with Windows 10.

Hopefully, Dell will sort it out soon. I was looking to get a new laptop as the 9365 will be 3 years of age in a month. I'll probably go with a Lenovo if this isn't addressed.

Hello,

Same problem with my XPS 13 9380. 2h battery life after installing Win11... It's a pity to have to spend time to find out why and how to solve this problem...

Same issue with my XPS 9380, less than 2 hours though battery capacity is around 85 % of the original capacity. I hope Dell will address this quickly?

My model is not the xps 9380. I have the 9570 but I have the same problem.

With win 10 battery life is 6h, with win 11 less than 3h

I know the 9365 has two versions since it was sold for two years, but the site still shows it is not qualified for Win 11.  Perhaps that is to avoid confusion or maybe something else on the system is not up to standards.

If you would create a sleep study report and attach pertinent sections from the snipping tool, maybe we could see what was happening.  I would not expect the very recently released Win 11 22H2, to help.

If you don't know how to do a sleep study, type the command below in an admin command prompt.  Make note of where the report is kept and go to that folder and copy the .html version to your desktop and open it in a browser.

powercfg /sleepstudy
