Dell Inspiron E1505 DVD/RW Drive Problems

Need help with my E1505 DVD/RW drive not showing up in windows Vista Home. It shows in the bios setup and also under device manager. But has a problem indicated in device manager. States windows could not load the C:\windows\system32\cdrom.sys file as it is corrupt or missing. The file is there. I have tried deleting this file and replacing with a known good one but cannot. Says access denied. Tried in the safe mode and same thing. Cjanged out the drive for a known good one and same problem. How can I get this corrected and loaded in windows?

Thanks.

Dbramlet,

I suspect that you have a conflicting device driver.  If you have recently added any software for devices such as IOmega ZIP disk, MP3 player, USB Flash drive, that may be the source of the conflict.  Open Device Manager and look at the DVD Properties.  Do you see any drivers that might reflect recent software that was installed such as iomdisk.sys?
