Error "dwwin.exe - DLL initialization failed" when shutting down.

I seem to be getting an error that says "dwwin.exe - DLL initialization failed" almost every time I shut down my E521 after using Acrobat to open certain files on the Internet, when required (forms, etc.).  When I click ok to get rid of the message, I get another error "The memory at a certain location could not be read".  Any idea what could be causing these errors?

I am using Acrobat 7.08 that came pre-loaded.  I’ev got Microsoft Defender(resident), Adaware Personal(the free edition), a-squared(free), ATI TV software, some HP printer software and Windows Live Messenger as the only non-preloaded software on the system.  The rest: McAfee 2006, Office 2003, etc. came preloaded.

Adobe Acrobat 8.0 is a resource hog and takes up more than 110 MB RAM of the system’s resources.  The HP printer software has not been updated since it was purchased, so it is around 2 years old.  Other than that, I can’t think of anything else.

Are you using Acrobat, or Acrobat reader? I had similar problems using Acrobat Reader 7. I went back to Acrobat 6 reader, and problem solved.

Since then, I have begun using Foxit PDF Reader. Free, faster, and takes up less space....

I am using Reader 7.08.  I didn't want to move back to version 6 although that sounds like the only option...or is foxit good enough for simply viewing PDF documents?  Since I have never heard of it, I only have foxit on a much older (almost 10 years) non-Dell machine and am a bit reluctant to install it on the Dell...seems very light though and really fast, so it's perfect for the old system.

Foxit works fine for the PDF files (like owner's manuals and such) I have tried it with. Truthfully, I have not run into any PDF files that it cannot open (though I am sure there are some).

Good luck.

One more thing to mention - that error message is very non specific. In other words, it is really Dr. Watson reporting that it was unable to log an error. The Adobe software may make the problem evident, but the actual problem seems like it could be a wide array of things.

One thing that worked for some is to delete the Dr Watson log and let it make a new one - they sometimes get corrupt, not allowing data to be written to it, and that error message shows up.

The Dr. Watson log is located in the Windows\System 32 folder (usually) and is called drwtsn.log (usually).

Happy New Year....

As far as I know, Foxit does not allow me to zoom into a document using the numerical value of zoom.  For example, I open a PDF in Adobe Reader and the zoom option value is set at say 62% making it generally harder to read.  All I have to do is simply type in 100% or something higher and the text is much more readable....in Foxit, it seems like all there is IS the option to click on the plus magnifier which zooms into the document but it takes a few clicks to get a readable text size.

Regarding the error message....Everytime I open a PDF file in the IE browser (without explicitly opening Adobe BEFORE opening the file), I need to close the browser when I am done with the PDF file and then, reopen Adobe and open any PDF file and then close it.....this allows log-off/shutdown without the error messages.

Happy New year.

Okay... I got the numerical percentage zoom with Foxit.

Go to updates and update and download the Javascript update. The percentage showed up on the bottom of the screen, and allows the numerical input....

On the same Foxit note... I ran into problems with it this weekend. It does not support online fillable forms that, when filled in, can be submitted on the internet. I thought it was Firefox at first, so I tried it under IE7 as well...  Looking into their forums, it is apparently not able to handle submittable forms....

Did you solve yor dwwin.exe problem yet.  I had this problem also.  I looked into the Adobe forum and found this solution for Version 7.0.8:

 Open Adobe Acrobat

    Edit
    Preferences
    Internet
    uncheck "Display PDF in brower"

That is a logical solution, as the problem seems to only show up when viewing in a browser...

But what about situations where you WANT to be in a browser because it is a submittable form? Will the Adobe's PDF Reader automatically connect to the internet to submit the form, or must the Reader be open inside the browser to submit a form?

Foxit did not allow form to be submitted even INSIDE of a browser.....
