Installation CD

I have a problem in that the installation CD that came with my system is cracked and I can't read the data on it. Any suggestions?

How old is the system?  If it's a fairly recent machine you MAY be able to get a replacement from Dell.  Otherwise you will have to buy a new Windows XP CD or if you are going to upgrade to Vista just wait till it comes out and buy that.
