Installing Windows 7 x64 on a Precision 690

The system came with XP x64; i've had Vista x64 running in the past but ditched it for obvious reasons... I recently tried to install Win 7 x64 and everything seems to work fine, until the last reboot.

then sometime after the "Starting Windows" the screen goes black and that's all i see until i reboot.

Any thoughts?
