PrintMaster Platinum 15 DVD

My wife has a wonderful program for making cards, and all kinds of other stuff. PrintMaster Platinum 15 DVD. It has an issue when first used in WinXP. There would be a error window with the following text. "The file PMUSER.DAT is already in use" There was a very easy fix. Below is the text of what the fix is. (The problems will be in red)

PMUSERS.DAT Is in Use When launching PrintMaster® Platinum 15, the error "The file PMUSERS.DAT is already in use" occurs. This error typically occurs when logged into Windows® XP with an account other than the account used when PrintMaster® was installed. Deleting the PMUSERS.DAT file typically resolves the issue. The remainder of this technical note describes how to resolve this issue. Complete the following procedures as needed.

Delete PMUSERS.DAT
  1. Close any open windows or programs and return to the desktop.
  2. Restart the computer and login with the same user account that installed PrintMaster®.
  3. Click Start and choose Search.
  4. In the Search window that appears, select All Files And Folders.
  5. Type PMUSERS.DAT in the All Or Part Of The File Name: field.
  6. Choose My Computer from the Look in: drop-down menu.
  7. Click the More Advanced button and verify that the Search Hidden Files and Folders option contains a check mark.
  8. Click Search to begin the search process. One file should be found.
  9. Right-click the file that displays and choose Delete from the menu that appears. (Click Yes if prompted to move the file to the Recycle Bin.)
  10. Close any open windows and return to the desktop.
  11. Click the Start menu, choose Log Off, and then choose Log Off from the window that appears.
  12. Log in as the user profile in which the error occurs.
  13. Continue with the procedure below.
Complete the steps below for the operating system in use. Windows® XP/2000
  1. Close all open windows and programs to return to the desktop.
  2. Click Start and choose Run.
  3. Type %HOMEPATH% into the Open field and click OK.  (This is an entirly different window than what is in XP)
  4. Click the Tools menu and choose Folder Options in the window that appears.
  5. Select the View tab in the window that opens.
  6. Locate the Hidden Files And Folders setting and ensure that Show Hidden Files And Folders is selected. (This can be done but not in this manner)
  7. Click OK to accept the change.
  8. Double-click the Local Settings folder. (This folder is not here in Vista)
  9. Double-click the Application Data folder. (There is a folder labeled App. Data)
  10. Double-click the Broderbund Software folder. (This folder does not exist
  11. Double-click the Print folder. (Since the previous folder is missing so is this one)
  12. Right-click the PrintMaster folder and choose Delete from the menu that appears. (I can find both of these folders on my pc, I just can't go and start deleting what ever comes up in a search.)
  13. Click Yes if prompted to move any files to the Recycle Bin.
  14. Close all open windows and restart the computer.
  15. Launch and use the program.

I understand the purpose of these instructions. They are to remove a file in my user folder. Since the steps are going to be different how can I find the right flie so I can use this program. I have even thought of trying to install the program as an older version of windows. I have never done this but I'm sure it would install properly. This however would not solve the problem of the fix as it is done in windows not the program itself.

I hope someone can help me with this. I am really starting to regret getting Vista. I have only had this XPS 420 a week and already I have printers that won't work, hardware that won't work, programs and drivers that won't work. Makes me thing of all the "MAC" adds. LOL.

Can anyone help me to find the proper file to delete? If you look at the pasted instructions you can see what I would be looking for. How would I find it in Vista? Any help or suggestions would be very nice. My wife is not happy that she can't use her program on the new pc that we had to get. (come on guys like you never did this huh.) You know what they say, when Mama's not happy, nobodys happy.
